This was a significant year for my friends. First Akiva got married in October, then Rob in December. I returned to San Diego on the 13th and then headed up to LA the next day with Brian for the wedding. After the wedding, Brian and I stayed in LA for another day or so and played tourist. I grew up in Southern California, but I hadn't been to LA for years. Otherwise, the break was characterized by me working (need to finish that dissertation!), and occasionally indulging my car fetish.
Rob and Raquel's Wedding
Since we were already dressed up, we
thought it would be a good time to take some pictures (with Brian)
Again with Brian, but I'm not cheating on
my height this time.
Mr. and Mrs. Rissman at the reception

The four of us (Brian, Raquel, Rob,
David)
Here I am doing my official duty
Rob and Raquel with the real
photographer
A scene from the reception. Brian is in
the background.
People-watching at the reception was fun.
This scene reminded me of Tom Wolfe's term "social X-rays" from
Bonfire of the Vanities. It's also a nice shot of the
beautiful flower arrangements.
Another picture with Rob. I thought these
turned out very well.
Car Fetish
I love cars, but I have two personalities when it comes to types. Most of the time I prefer luxury cars, but sometimes I "feel the need for speed"...
With Brian
and my Jaguar S-Type (for the wedding and touring LA)
The
Corvette from the side. This is a fun car to drive!

Same shot,
but with the four of us
<insert your own phallic reference here>
We came
across this sign at the shuffleboard courts at the beach. I was
shocked at this blatant display of illegal age discrimination! Of
course, since Santa Monica isn't Pittsburgh, the courts were empty.
Brian and I
couldn't pass up the opportunity to show our moves to everybody's
favorite: "So many men, so little time..."
Here we are
at the Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd.
Me, with
the greatest...actor of...all time.
This being
Hollywood, you have to expect some strange things. I didn't expect
the "L. Ron Hubbard Winter Wonderland." It was right outside a big
$cientology building on Hollywood Blvd. I half expected Tom Cruise to
be dressed up as Santa!
Finally,
after the wedding, Brian and I spent the day at Universal Studios.
Time with Brian
Here I am with Brian in my backyard
Enjoying lunch at George's at the Cove in
La Jolla. One of my favorite places to spend an afternoon.
